Para Galandum Galundaina a música não se inventa, reencontra-se.

Galandum Galundaina faz parte da genealogia de uma região com um património musical e etnográfico único, que durante muito tempo ficou esquecido. Ao longo dos últimos 30 anos o grupo contribuiu para o estudo, preservação e divulgação da identidade cultural das Terras de Miranda, Nordeste Transmontano.

O seu trabalho de investigação e recolha, junto de pessoas mais velhas com conhecimentos rigorosos do legado musical da região, a par da formação académica na área da música, concretizou-se num sentido renovado no modo de entender as sonoridades que desde sempre conheceram. Com a sua música não procuram criar novos significados, mas antes descrever os lugares e a vida; encontrar as raízes que permitem que a cultura se desenvolva.

Para além da edição de quatro álbuns de estúdio e um DVD ao vivo, o trabalho do grupo inclui a padronização da gaita-de-foles mirandesa, a construção de instrumentos tradicionais (usados em concerto), bem como a produção e programação de outros festivais/eventos relacionados com a cultura tradicional.

Em palco os quatro elementos apresentam um repertório vocal e instrumental na herança do cancioneiro tradicional das Terras de Miranda, onde as harmonias vocais e o ritmo das percussões nos transportam para um universo atemporal. Das memórias da Sanfona, da Gaita-de-foles Mirandesa, da Flauta pastoril, do Rabel, do Saltério, do Cântaro, do Pandeiro mirandês, do Bombo e da Caixa de Guerra do avô Ventura, nasce uma música que acumula referências, lugares, intensidades, tempos. Para Galandum Galundaina a música não se inventa, reencontra-se.

Os álbuns editados têm tido uma excelente apreciação pela crítica especializada, tendo um dels vencido o Prémio Megafone e outros fizeram parte da lista de melhores álbuns do ano. Já pisaram centenas de palcos em Festivais de World Music/Folk em Portugal, Espanha, França, Itália, Bélgica, Alemanha, Marrocos, Cuba, Cabo Verde, Brasil, México, Macau e Malásia.

Galandum Galundaina are part of the genealogy of a region with a unique musical and ethnographic heritage that remained forgotten for a long time. Over the past 30 years, the group has contributed to the study, preservation, and dissemination of the cultural identity of the Terras de Miranda, in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes.

Their research and fieldwork—carried out with elderly people holding deep knowledge of the region’s musical legacy—combined with their academic training in music, has resulted in a renewed way of understanding the sounds they have always known. Through their music, they do not seek to create new meanings, but rather to describe places and life itself; to rediscover the roots that allow culture to grow and evolve.

In addition to releasing four studio albums and one live DVD, the group’s work includes the standardization of the Mirandese bagpipe, the construction of traditional instruments (used in concert), as well as the production and programming of festivals and events related to traditional culture.

On stage, the four members present a vocal and instrumental repertoire rooted in the traditional songbook of the Terras de Miranda, where vocal harmonies and rhythmic percussion transport audiences to a timeless universe. From the memories of the Sanfona, the Mirandese bagpipe, the shepherd’s flute, the rabel, the psaltery, the clay pitcher, the Mirandese tambourine, the bass drum and grandfather Ventura’s snare drum, emerges a music rich in references, places, intensities, and times. Their albums have received excellent reviews from specialized critics, with one winning the Megafone Award and others being included in lists of the best albums of the year. They have performed on hundreds of stages at World Music/Folk festivals in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Morocco, Cuba, Cape Verde, Brazil, Mexico, Macau, and Malaysia.
